S. M. Porter grew up in Stockport, (although she'll tell you Manchester). She attended the University of Liverpool for four years obtaining a degree in Archaeology and Egyptology and a Masters in Roman Archaeology alongside being Captain of the University Fencing Club.
She has been a professional full time field archaeologist for nine years, and has worked on a wide range of archaeological sites including several pre-historic settlements, Roman villas, an amphitheatre, and one of her favourites: a medieval garderobe (toilet). She is also a specialist in Roman coin identification and is published in her field.
Outside of archaeology and writing S. M. Porter is a keen cyclist and active, competitive member of her local fencing club. She is also very attached to her motorbike and enjoys getting out for long rides in nice weather.
The Mystery of St. Arondight's is her first novel.
